Variety Names Jennifer Maas Senior Business, TV and Video Game Writer
Kaare Eriksen leads game analysis and commentary for Variety VIP+
As Variety expands your gaming coverage, Jennifer Maas was promoted to senior business, TV and video game writer. She will lead the entertainment news brand’s expanded video game industry coverage, with a special emphasis on the convergence of gaming content and IP with TV shows, films, books and other media.
With the promotion, Maas will conduct business reporting, features and breaking news coverage on gaming and related topics in addition to his TV business news coverage duties. Variety’s focus on the growing gaming sector, estimated to be a $184 billion global market by 2023, according to research firm Newzoo, is also reinforced by analysis and special reports produced by Variety VIP+, the subscription research service for the media business. VIP+ media analyst Kaare Eriksen has been writing analysis and special reports about the video game industry for several years.
“Jennifer Maas has brought energy and focus to Variety’s trade coverage since the day she signed on,” said Cynthia Littleton, co-editor in chief of Variety. “She is more than ready for this well-deserved promotion. Games of all types have become a global force and we look forward to expanding our coverage of this important market.”

Maas joined Variety in January 2022 as a New York-based TV business writer. She has been a key contributor to Variety’s award-winning coverage of business and financial news relating to media and entertainment giants, as well as general TV news. She also contributes to the “Strictly Business” podcast and newsletter and leads fan-focused coverage of numerous TV series, notably “Stranger Things,” “9-1-1,” “The Boys” and “Bridgerton.”
