Trump Media delays earnings report after SEC shuts down auditor
Martin Gruenberg, president of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, faced renewed calls for his resignation from Republicans on Wednesday following an investigation into workplace culture at the US banking regulator.
Democrats on the panel called for additional hearings on problems at the FDIC, but stopped short of asking for Gruenberg’s dismissal, which can only be done by President Joe Biden, who appointed him.
The hearing follows a report released last week by an outside law firm that detailed widespread discrimination against female employees at the agency but also repeated Gruenber’s verbal abuse of employees.
“I can’t sit here and say I’m okay with this. I’m not,” said New York congressman Gregory Meeks, a Democrat. “If it was me and my office, I would be exhausted.”
Gruenberg told lawmakers he accepted the report’s findings and was committed to improving his behavior and fixing the culture at the agency.
