The shrill discourse of the Ministers of the GNCTD over the last few weeks, has been distressing and questionable at various levels. Drinking water supply has become a challenge in the national capital. Political leaders of Delhi have turned a crisis into an opportunity for blaming neighbouring states, with the sole aim of gaining political mileage. Delhi is dependent on drinking water supply from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Interstate water-sharing arrangements are settled through institutional mechanisms created by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, GoI, upheld time and again by the highest court of the land. The states are obliged to release water as per agreements signed under this framework. At the same time, the city government is under an obligation to ensure that this water resource is used efficiently to ensure equitable supplies across the city

It is a complete failure of the government of India because, with so much technology, I can’t seem to understand why there are so many glitches every time there’s a competitive exam. Students and parents work very hard to cross this big milestone of their lives. If they are going to get cheated like this, it’s very unfortunate and the government has failed us. We are going to raise this issue in Parliament. The government is on the backfoot on many issues.

The GST Council meeting scheduled for 22.06.2024, has all eyes on it.The plate is full and expectations are that the Council will take up the issues of: rate structure overhauling and rate rationalization on an overall basis, plug the concerns in respect of inverted duty structure (pharmaceuticals, textiles etc.), provide further clarifications on the newly introduced GST on corporate guarantee. A part of the wish list is that the GST Council provides definitive guidance on multiplicity of proceedings by different tax authorities in the GST regime – this has become a bane for industry and is somewhat allayed by the Circular of 30.03.2024. The online gaming sector, which is reeling under severe impact of modification of the GST rate, anticipates the now delayed review of the sector will be taken up.

We anticipate the 53rd GST Council meeting as a pivotal event, potentially introducing key reforms and announcements. Positioned strategically just ahead of the Union Budget, this session has heightened expectations across various sectors. We expect the outcomes to have far-reaching economic implications, particularly regarding tax rationalization and compliance simplification. Businesses and investors are keenly watching for signals indicating the government’s fiscal direction and commitment to fostering a conducive economic environment. As we approach the Union Budget, significant changes could bolster market sentiment, drive economic growth, and positively influence the investment landscape. The anticipation is palpable, with stakeholders hoping for measures that streamline processes, reduce tax burdens, and encourage greater transparency. Such reforms would enhance economic efficiency and strengthen investor confidence, setting a positive tone for the fiscal year ahead.
