Throughout the month of April, Northwest Bank employees shared important lessons about saving money with students in the local community as part of the American Bankers Association’s National Teach Kids to Save Program.

Since becoming a Teach Children to Save Champion in 2012, Northwest Bank has had the privilege of educating nearly 21,000 students in partnership with the ABA through this national program. Educational presentations allow bankers the opportunity to teach financial skills to students through activities, interactive scenarios, and sharing real-life experiences. Lessons cover the basics of saving, how interest makes money grow, how to cut spending, and how to distinguish needs from wants.

The ABA Education Foundation’s Teach Kids to Save program, along with other financial education initiatives, has reached 11.6 million young people with the help of more than 275,000 bankers who increase financial literacy through hands-on learning and raise awareness about the important role that banks and bankers play in helping young people develop lifelong savings habits.

“Familiarizing students with the fundamentals of financial literacy at an early age puts them on the path to becoming money-smart adults,” said Joe Conover, president of Northwest Bank. “Teaching children to save is a great opportunity for us to share our passion for financial education and improve our local community.”

This year, Northwest Bank had the privilege of educating more than 1,890 students.
