Media Cheat Sheets
Spouses of military personnel (of all branches except Marines) are now eligible for up to $1,000 cashback for specific business expenses incurred when moving to a new base. Rosalinda Vásquez Maury, director of applied research at the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University, shared her thoughts on this. Please see her comments below. If you would like to schedule an interview with her, please contact Vanessa Marquette, Media Relations Specialist, at vrmarque@syr.edu.

Maury writes: “The new policy that reimburses military spouses up to $1,000 for business costs during moves addresses significant challenges highlighted in our latest data roundup on Military Spouse Businessmen. Our research shows that 46% of military spouses feel their status negatively affects their career prospects, driving many toward entrepreneurship. Although 74% of military spouse entrepreneurs report that entrepreneurship has a positive impact on their professional lives, only 28% are able to fully support themselves or their families through their businesses. This reimbursement provides essential financial relief, supporting their resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, and helping them sustain and expand their ventures.”
