The Supreme Court will today hear fresh pleas on the alleged paper leaks and malpractices related to the NEET-UG 2024 dispute. Ten of these petitions were filed by 49 students and a group of students, while four were filed by the National Testing Agency. The petitioners sought directions to an independent committee or panel to conduct a post-examination review, including background check and forensic inquiry.

At least 25 people have died and over 60 people have been hospitalized after allegedly drinking toxic liquor in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu, officials said today. “I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of the death of people who consumed adulterated liquor in Kallakurichi. Those involved in the crime were arrested in this matter. Chief Minister MK Stalin said in a post on X. Officials said the death count could rise.

The Ministry of Education canceled the UGC-NET exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency, just a day after it was held. More than 900,000 candidates appeared for the exam, which was held to determine eligibility for junior research fellowships. With this decision, UGC-NET becomes the first centrally conducted public examination to be canceled after the central government introduced a new anti-paper leakage law. The UGC-NET exam was canceled citing that the “integrity of the exam may have been compromised”. The June 2024 UGC-NET exam was conducted in OMR (pen and paper) mode on June 18 at 1,205 exam centers across 317 cities.
