Johnston Carmichael has welcomed a temporary recruit to its Tayside team – a Hairy Highland coo.
The sculpture is part of the Hairy Highland Cooing Traila new art installation located in Perth and Kinross, launched today (28 June).
The trail will be open until September 6th. At the end of the exhibition, the coos will be auctioned in aid of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).
The flock of 30 coos, each individually designed by talented local artists and sponsored by local businesses, were placed on streets, parks and public spaces throughout the region. They will be complemented by 20 mini coos, some of which will be designed by local school children.
Johnston Carmichael’s coo was created by a local artist Sylvia Whiteley. She is a self-taught artist from Perth, specialising in pet and wildlife portraits.
The team at Johnston Carmichael chose the design for their coo, which sits in a bed of lavender and has been aptly named Lavender. Lavender is located at Loch Leven’s Larder, an award-winning farm shop and restaurant in Kinross.
Part of the Wild in Art initiative, the trail will transform Perth and Kinross into an open-air art gallery, helping to attract visitors and contribute to the social and economic growth of the region.
Silvia said: “I am so proud to have been asked to create this artwork for Johnston Carmichael.
“Nature is an inspiration to me and I hope that when people visit the company’s furry office they feel the same connection and are encouraged to discover the beautiful surroundings of Perth and Kinross.”
Silvia is further supporting the efforts by designing one of the mini coos, which will be on display at her recently opened store at 55 George Street, Perth.
Jenn Stewartpartner and head of Johnston Carmichael’s Dundee office, said: “CHAS is a fantastic charity and it is extremely rewarding to help raise funds for such an incredible cause.
“It is extremely important for Johnston Carmichael to be an active and supportive partner in the communities where we live and work.
“What’s great about the Hairy Highland coo trail is that it offers something for everyone to enjoy. We hope visitors will enjoy following the trail, which will bring significant benefits to the local area and also to CHAS.”
