Grant Thornton considers private equity deal
Grant Thornton UK LLP is reportedly exploring a possible sale of a stake in the company to private equity investors.
While the firm has confirmed that it is evaluating several avenues for growth, it has denied being actively involved in any transaction. Any potential deal would ensure that the audit arm remains majority-owned by the firm’s 200 partners, The times reports.
Grant Thornton Ireland, which operates independently of the UK business, said it was actively exploring strategic options for its future but was not currently involved in any sale.
The exploration follows a similar investment in Grant Thornton’s US arm by New Mountain Capital. It comes as the accounting industry undergoes significant restructuring, with private equity firms increasingly buying up big players.
