Embark celebrates first graduates of fintech skills school in Dundee

Dundee-based financial services company Embark, part of Bank of Scotland owner Lloyds Group, has marked the successful graduation of its first cohort from its fintech skills school.
Embark specialist training center in West Marketgait recruited graduates and career changers into junior software developer roles last November as part of its commitment to the local economy through investment in technology career development .
Now, towards the end of the personalized course, the 11 graduates will move into permanent roles as software engineers.
Following the success of the inaugural program, Embark now has plans to recruit a new group for the intensive training and development course led by its fintech experts.
The technology school is led by Rose Uldemolinswho built her career in technology at Lloyds Banking Group after specializing as a software engineer.
Mrs Ulldemolins said: “It has been amazing to see how everyone has come from day one to now and how the experiences everyone has had as individuals and as a group have had such a positive impact on different levels.
“I am extremely proud of their commitment and everyone has played a role in how we will be able to help shape and develop the program.”
One of the first graduates, Gemma GrantHe worked part-time in retail while studying and saw an opportunity to join the technology school program.
She said: “I was thinking about going back to university to do a masters and when I saw the description of the training and what the roles were about, I took a leap of faith, jumped at the opportunity and I’m so glad I did. ”
Similarly, Toby Keech He entered technology school as a sports and exercise science major and worked as a personal trainer.
He said: “I was looking for a new way to learn and challenge myself and felt that even though I had no experience in technology, bringing a different perspective was highly valued and we were being trained by experts who were able to get the best out of all of us.”

Part of a wider initiative launched in 2020 that aims to bring 150 new jobs to Dundee supported by Scottish Enterprise, the technology school was created to help address the acute skills and recruitment challenge for technology companies across the country, with a in every 10 new job openings in the UK Technology Related.
