Edinburgh residents could soon be rewarded for binning their rubbish with a new council-backed lottery scheme.

LitterLotto, a free app, encourages users to photograph themselves disposing of their rubbish correctly, offering monthly cash prizes of £100 to winners from specific cities and £1,000 to winners from across Scotland.

The initiative, due to launch in the autumn, aims to encourage responsible waste disposal and improve the city’s cleanliness, following a drop in standards during the pandemic.
